Newcastle Theatre Company (NTC)

Newcastle Theatre Company (NTC) - previously known as Newcastle Repertory Club - was formed in May 1957 and has continuously operated since that time. We have grown and evolved over the years and have built a substantial following from within the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter and Port Stephens region, attracting upwards of 7,500 patrons annually to the theatre. Our financial membership averages 160 people.

The group presents six major productions a year, a season of One-Act Plays (Act One), hosts high school drama festivals and has regular play readings and club nights throughout the year.

Our mission statement encapsulates what we stand for, “Newcastle Theatre Company seeks to bring together people of like mind to produce theatre of a high standard, using the combined talents of all its membership, in an atmosphere of fun and community, for the enjoyment and entertainment of the people of Newcastle and its surrounds”.

We are acknowledged annually with a myriad of City of Newcastle Drama Awards (CONDA) nominations and numerous CONDA wins. Many NTC members have achieved considerable success in the arts locally and internationally, such as Susie Porter, and we invite charities throughout the Hunter to use NTC as a source of fund-raising by giving them one free performance of every production.

Our principal aims of NTC:

  • Make live theatre accessible and affordable to the community of the Hunter Region;
  • Provide a learning environment for our members to hone their skills in all areas of theatre, this includes;
    i. Employing professionals to workshop their skills
    ii. Providing a valuable training ground for those seeking to pursue a career in theatre
    iii. Enable new playwrights to workshop and present their pieces
  • A forum for airing social issues and increasing public awareness; and
  • Encourage young and older adults to participate either on stage or off, in the experience of live theatre. We hold workshops to further their knowledge and at the same time provide a safe, enjoyable, social and happy environment to foster theatrical pursuits
