As well as breathtaking scenery, The Blue Mountains National Park has long been renowned as one of the finest bushwalking areas in the World. Cascading waterfalls, breath-taking panoramas, fern filled gullies, hanging swamps, rainforests and an abundance of bird life and magnificent flowers await discovery at every turn of the track . Did you know that you could access these magnificent bushwalks by means of the hourly Hop On Hop Off “Trolley Tour” starting from Katoomba daily at 9-45am. The trolley bus offers the opportunity to alight at the start of a bushwalk, and rejoin at the next stop, without retracing your steps. A good example would be the Gordon Falls bushwalk to Leura Cascades which is graded medium and takes one hour. If bushwalking sounds too strenuous, there are also many attractions that feature as stops along the Trolley Bus Route. Examples of these include the Heritage listed Everglades Gardens Historic Home built in the 1930's in Leura, and restored by the National Trust. It sits on 12.5 acres of European style landscaping with oaks, beech trees, maples and cherry trees, overlooking the native bush scenery of the Jamison Valley. The lawns are lush and green and the view to Mount Solitary on the far side of Jamison Valley is one of the most spectacular in the Mountains. You can also visit the Leuralla Toy and Rail Museum as part of the tour. The historic Heritage listed home is a fascinating museum of toy's and childrens literature of the 20th century. You'll be amazed at the incredible array of pre and post war dolls, teddy bears, lead figures, comics, books, tinplate trains, aeroplanes, automobiles and working model railway sets. See the biggest permanent Barbie Doll display in Australia and the all weather Matterhorn railway garden. Leuralla also features NSW Railway trackside and station memorobilia such as lights, trolleys, seats, signals and signs. Also in Leura is claimed to be the the largest teapot collection in the world started 35 years ago at Bygone Beauties Tea Room said to be larger than the collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. You can also purchase High Tea , served by a butler in period costume of top hat and tails. Fine sandwiches, home made cakes and scones with jam and fresh cream are presented on a three tiered stand. If adventure rides appeal, Scenic World operates the World's steepest funicular railway, along with the Scenic Cableway and Scenic Skyway, offering spectacular view of the World famous Three Sisters and Katoomba Falls. Walks along the valley floor feature information on the original coal mining operation for which the railway was built. There is something for everyone to do, and you can do it at your own pace on Blue Mountains Trolley Tours. |
